Job Description

The Department of Clinical Cancer Prevention was established to bring together basic, translational, and clinical researchers to conduct cancer prevention research and advance the field through research, education, and clinical care. The observership will be offered to undergraduate students who have applied to the program and are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, particularly in oncology. This observational experience is designed to encourage participation in the program and to inspire students to consider a career in oncology.

Educational Goals:
1. Observation Attendance: Students are expected to attend and observe clinical activities at least one day per week throughout the program period. This will provide them with firsthand experience of the day-to-day operations in a medical setting, particularly in oncology.
2. Written Essay: Students will be required to write an essay reflecting on their experiences, specifically focusing on the lessons learned about patient and physician communication. This essay will help them articulate their observations and insights, reinforcing the importance of effective communication in medical practice.

By participating in this observership, students will gain valuable exposure to the field of oncology, enhance their understanding of the medical profession, and develop essential skills that will benefit them in their future medical careers.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1) Understanding of patient and provider communication and the importance of patient experience
2) Increase knowledge of breast cancer types and treatment
3) Participate in didactic multi-disciplinary conferences when patients are presented
