Job Description

The Town of Williston invites applications for the position of full-time Library Director at the Dorothy Alling Memorial Library. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a municipal library that serves a vibrant community with a rich history and expanding population. As Library Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our library, spearheading a major renovation and expansion project, and driving innovative programs and services that will elevate the library’s impact and presence in our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the strategic plan and policies established by the Library Board of Trustees.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate library functions, services, programs, and facilities.
  • Develop and modify collections, services, and facilities.
  • Supervise library staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Manage the library’s budget, grants, and financial resources.
  • Oversee library technology systems and maintain contracts for electronic resources.
  • Represent the library to community groups, professional organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Library Board of Trustees and the Town Manager on library services and policies.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program (preferred) or bachelor’s degree plus Vermont Certificate of Public Librarianship.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, including library management.
  • In-depth knowledge of library principles, practices, and administration.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in public relations, community outreach, strategic planning, and grant administration.
  • Proficiency in library technology, automated systems, and office software.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to pass a background check to the Town’s satisfaction.

Compensation and Benefit Highlights:

  • Starting Annual Salary Range is $90,000 to $105,000 dependent on qualifications.
  • Health Insurance (90% premium covered by the Town)
  • Dental Insurance (100% premium covered by the Town)
  • Long Term Disability and Life Insurance (100% premium covered by the Town)
  • Defined Contribution Plan or Defined Benefit Plan (pension)
  • 12 Paid Holidays per year
  • Vacation to be negotiated and 18 days of Sick Leave per year
